I read an article today that doesn’t surprise me and yet concerns me. It has to do with a study on beliefs. The article says that the number of US nonbelievers is rising. We are a nation who was founded on God, whose motto is “One Nation Under God” and yet we are turning away from God. Is it any wonder that we are going through the things we are. We have become a people who for all intents and purposes have turned away from God.
I started this article a month ago, then felt checked to wait before finishing it. Since then I have found 2 more articles. The one that was the most interesting was an article in Newsweek magazine by Jon Meacham. (http://www.newsweek.com/id/192583). In it he goes on to point out a couple of things from the survey that had been taken (the one I had read earlier).
The first fact is that as a whole we are not as “Christian” as we used to be. Areas of the country that had previously been Judeo-Christian are decreasing, while some areas are increasing in their influence. Overall though we are becoming a godless people. We are so consumed with ourselves that we turn away from anything that would cause us to look at our own actions. True Christianity, a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, causes us to look at our lives differently. We become less concerned about oursleves and more about others. Our focus shifts. Unfortunately, the majority of Americans just aren’t there and it is showing in how our goverments are being run.
Another fact he put forth was the continuing movement away from Christian values. Like prayer in school and creationism to begin with. Others are fast falling away too.
We are living in a society that wants to set it’s own standards, separate and apart from God and His Word. It is showing in what is happening today in our country and world.
How can we correct this? We need to turn back to the precepts our founding fathers set out for us. We are “One Nation Under God” and in “God We Trust”!!! We need to turn back to the Bible. Those of us who are Christians need to pray. Why? Because prayer moves the hands of God! He is waiting on His people.
